Scope of the Colloquium

During the past years several Bunsen Colloquia have been devoted to reactivity as well as diffusivity in solids being vital topics in advanced materials research and engineering. This year’s Bunsen Colloquium continues this small series. It focuses on fundamental as well as application-oriented studies on diffusion of atoms or ions in a wide range of solids in various structural forms. A thorough understanding of diffusion processes from an interdisciplinary point of view is crucial for materials development.
The Bunsen Colloquium brings together scientists working theoretically as well as experimentally in research areas where solid state diffusion, certainly being a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature, plays a superior role. Starting with lectures introducing prominent methods to study diffusion parameters, the Colloquium puts also emphasis on important models in this field. Particularly, it will focus on motional processes in materials such as lithium ion conductors being highly relevant in energy storage research.
